Healthy Foods for South Park

ECOSS is launching a new project to make healthy foods more readily available in South Park. Public Health - Seattle and King County provided funding for this and other projects as part of Communities Putting Prevention to Work. We are partnering with Solid Ground: Lettuce Link and the South Park P-Patch, stewards of Marra Farm, and Community Coalition of Environmental Justice, a local advocacy group.

There are four parts to this project:

Mobilize schools and community
We will work with staff and the community at Concord International International Elementary School, the community center, and other places that serve children in and around South Park, to make healthy food and drink options more readily available for children and youth.

Help immigrant and lower-income residents grow food

We will work with farmers growing on large plots at Marra Farm to grow food and find markets for their produce.

Increase healthy food at local businesses
Working with our partners, Healthy Foods Here, and community members, we will work with retail businesses including corner stores and restaurants to increase healthy food and drink options.

Create consumer demand in South Park for healthy foods
We will help increase awareness and demand for helathy food options through communications, outreach efforts, events, and assit businesses in marketing their healthy foods.
